Privacy Policy

Calorie Balance ("the app", "we") is a calorie tracker for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The short version: the app has no accounts. Your profile and food log stay on your device and in your own iCloud. What leaves the device is food data needed to find or share foods, anonymous usage events, and what Apple and RevenueCat need to process a subscription, as described below.

Data stored on your device and in your iCloud

The following is stored on your iPhone and is never uploaded to us:

• Your profile: sex used for calculation, date of birth, height, weight, goal, and activity settings.
• Your food log: the foods, portions, meals, and dates you record.
• How many of the free food entries you have used.

If iCloud is turned on, your food log syncs through your private iCloud database, and your profile and free-entry count are kept in your iCloud Keychain, so they survive a reinstall and reach your other devices. This storage belongs to your Apple account; we cannot read it. Deleting the app removes the copy on the device; the iCloud copy can be removed in the iCloud settings of your iPhone.

Apple Health

If you grant permission, the app reads your active energy from Apple Health to adjust your daily calorie budget. This data is read on your device only, is used solely to calculate your budget, and is never transmitted to us or to any third party. The app does not write any data back to Apple Health. You can revoke access at any time in the iOS Health app.

Food search and barcode lookups

When you search for a food by name or scan a barcode, the search words or the barcode number are sent to Open Food Facts, a free public food database, and to our community food catalog (described below) to find matching foods. Nothing else is sent with them — no profile data and no food log. Open Food Facts' handling of these requests is governed by their privacy policy. We do not store your searches in our database.

Community food catalog

Foods you create and products you scan are added to a shared food catalog, run by us at caloriebalance.vovaluka.com, so other users can find them. What is added is food data only: the name, brand, barcode, calories, nutrients and serving size. No account, name or device identifier is attached. To limit abuse, the server keeps a one-way hash of your IP address to count contributions per hour; hashes older than three hours are deleted the next time the catalog receives a contribution. If you report a food from the catalog, it is hidden from search.

Anonymous usage statistics

The app sends anonymous usage events to TelemetryDeck so we can see where the app is confusing — for example, which onboarding step was reached, whether the plans screen was shown, and whether a purchase went through, was cancelled or failed. Events carry no food names, profile values or anything you type, and TelemetryDeck receives only a hashed, anonymous identifier. See TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.

Subscriptions and purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which handles purchase validation and entitlements. To do this, RevenueCat processes a purchase and an anonymous app-generated identifier. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details — those are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

What we do not do

• We do not require an account or collect your email.
• We do not show ads or use advertising SDKs.
• We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We do not sell or share your data.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date.
